This course covers the topic of population: the number of people in a town, city, region or the world. It covers population calculation and defines informal settlements and ageing populations.

In this course an examination of the world’s population and how it has changed over time will be made. The student will be called on to consider how many people there are on the planet, how this has changed, where populations are distributed and how birth and death rates affect population.
During this course the student will be introduced to the concept of informal settlements, learn how and why they emerge and develop, the challenges faced by people living in them, and some of the ways these challenges can be overcome.
This course comprises of six lessons and is designed for students in grades 4 to 6. It combines education and fun in the form of several pieces of interactive content dispersed throughout the various lessons. It also introduces the student to a new type of graph called a population pyramid.
At the end of this course students should be able to detail the factors affecting population and discuss growing and ageing populations and the challenges they present around infrastructure and resources.
